The number of figures shall be limited to those absolutely necessary for clarification of the text. The same information must not be presented in both a table and a figure. Figures and tables should be numbered separately with Arabic numerals, and should be referred to in the text with clear remarks (Table 1 or Figure 1). Titles, headings, legends and all the other text in figures and tables should be written in both English and Croatian.
All figures (photographs, graphs, diagrams, flowcharts etc.) and tables shall be readable if printed in black and white and inserted into the text in their original format in order to insert them subsequently into the Croatian version. If this is not possible, original documents should be sent in the format in which it was made (for example MS Excel, Statistica format).
Photographs should be of 600 dpi resolution in .jpg or .tiff format, completely clear and understandable without reference to the text of the manuscript. Any photographs must be accompanied by written consent to publish from the individuals involved.
Photomicrographs should have a mark indicating magnification, preferably in micrometers. Magnification can be additionally indicated at the end of the figure title, e.g. "Mag. 7500:1".
All figures and tables should be cited and discussed in the manuscript text. Tables should be formatted using the ‘insert table’ function in Word, or provided as an Excel file.
Titles and legends: Each figure or table should have a concise title. Title shall not be written in block letters. A legend for each figure and table should also be provided that briefly describes the key points and explains any symbols and abbreviations used. The legend should be sufficiently detailed so that the figure or table can stand alone from the main text.
Permissions: If reusing a figure or table from a previous publication, the authors are responsible for obtaining permission from the copyright holder and for the payment of any fees (if applicable). Please include a note in the legend to state that, e.g.: This figure/table has been reproduced with permission from [include original publication citation] or the acknowledgement line specified in your permissions documentation if different.
Line art: Examples of line art include graphs, diagrams, flow charts and phylogenetic trees. Please make sure that text is at least 8 pt, the lines are thick enough to be clearly seen at the size the image will likely be displayed (between 75-150 mm width, which converts to one or two columns width, respectively), and that the font size and type is consistent between images. Figures should be created using a white/transparent background to ensure that they display correctly online and without frame.
